Dr. Kherieh Rassas, Vice President for International and External Affairs at An-Najah National University and UNIMED President, held a courtesy meeting with H.E Mr. Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The meeting was also attended by H.E Ms. Itaf Ben Abdallah, Special Advisor to the SG for Higher Education and Research, along with Dr. Marcello Scalisi, UNIMED Director. A separate meeting was conducted with H.E Mr. Almotaz Abadi, Deputy Secretary General for Water, Environment, and Blue Economy.
The meetings, which took place at the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona last June 2024, focused on promoting sustainable development and addressing regional challenges through joint initiatives.
During these meetings, Dr. Rassas emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing educational quality and addressing pressing issues such as water scarcity, environmental sustainability, and economic development in the Mediterranean region.
She thanked UfM for their willingness and commitment to engage with the Technical Education Support for Higher Education Students Initiative (TESI) aiming at enabling higher education students in Gaza to resume their education and alleviating the educational burdens caused by the recent war.
These meetings mark a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and fostering sustainable development in the Mediterranean region. The collaboration between UfM and UNIMED is expected to yield fruitful results and contribute to the overall progress and stability of the region.
