9 November 2024: A team from the Microbial Engineering Group, ICGEB New Delhi was one of the winners at the “Race from Science to Entrepreneurship” competition where young scientists contextualise research within economic and environmental applications.

ICGEB New Delhi made a strong showing at the RaSe (Race from Science to Entrepreneurship) competition, held at the National Institute of Immunology (NII) in New Delhi. Organised by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to mark the inaugural Foundation Day of BRIC, the event saw intense competition by 28 teams representing 14 leading research institutes across India. The RaSE is intended to encourage young talent pool in BRIC institutes to develop their entrepreneurial skills by exposing them to issues involved in commercialization of biosciences especially in the thematic areas of Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment.

ICGEB participated with two teams: one from the Yeast Biofuel Group and the other from the Microbial Engineering Group. The Microbial Engineering team, led by PI Dr. Shams Yazdani, emerged as one of the top five winners. The winning team comprised Dr. Babbal, Dr. Raubins Kumar, Ms. Vineesha Garg, and Mr. Syed Ghulam Razi. Their innovative approach to microbial engineering earned them recognition for their excellence in science-driven entrepreneurship. This accomplishment highlights ICGEB’s continued commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and promoting the translation of scientific innovation into real-world solutions.
