Almost 400 students, research scholars, scientists, business people and members of the civil society, visited the ICGEB stand over four days.

ICGEB New Delhi made a remarkable impact at the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024, held from November 29 to December 3, 2024, at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahati, Assam. Representing ICGEB at the event were Mr. Rayies Altaf (PRO, ICGEB), along with Dr. Kaustav Nayak (Research Scientist), Dr. Dileep Verma (Research Associate), Mr. Garvit Sharma (PhD student), and Ms. Himani Gautam (PhD student). The team engaged actively with visitors, showcasing the Organisation’s cutting-edge research and fostering scientific curiosity. The ICGEB stall became a vibrant hub of activity, drawing significant attention from students, researchers, and the general public alike. Around 400 visitors visited ICGEB stall during the four day event.

A variety of interactive sessions were organised, including:

  • Special quiz shows tailored to pique the interest of young minds.
  • Hands-on Foldscope sessions, providing a glimpse into practical microscopy.
  • Science career counselling sessions, aimed at guiding students towards a future in research and innovation.

In addition, the ICGEB team showcased posters from various ICGEB research groups, engaging both scientists and non-specialists in discussions about the centre’s research work. These efforts facilitated significant outreach, allowing visitors to explore the depth and diversity of ICGEB’s research over the four-day event. The ICGEB team also conducted a special science quiz show at the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) stall, further extending engagement with the festival’s attendees. The team’s efforts were not only limited to outreach but also celebrated in competition. Mr. Rayies Altaf and Mr. Garvit Sharma achieved laurels by winning two prizes in the CSIR Quiz Shows held at the CSIR pavilion. By applying scientific expertise and using creative engagement strategies, the ICGEB team exemplified how research organizations can connect with diverse audiences, make science accessible and inspiring. Participation at IISF 2024 successfully amplified ICGEB’s mission, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
