R-L: Drs. Dongping Bao, ICGEB China RRC, with Lawrence Banks and Emanuele Buratti
In January 2026, Dr. Dongping Bao and colleagues from the ICGEB China Regional Research Centre (RRC) in Taizhou joined the ICGEB laboratories in Trieste.
The move builds on the inauguration of the Trieste Offshore Laboratory in June 2025, held during the official visit by delegations from the Taizhou Municipal Government and China Medical City (CMC), and aims to advance the translation of research into practical applications.
Established in 2020, the China RRC strengthens local research capacity while promoting international scientific collaboration.
Dr. Bao, Head of Biotechnology and Diagnostics at the RRC, brings an international academic background, with a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Utrecht University and earlier degrees from Nanjing and Yangzhou Universities. She is joined by Jiawi Zhou, a pharmaceutical engineering graduate who has been part of the RRC since 2023.
The exchange highlights how access to ICGEB’s Trieste facilities advances the next stage of research carried out at the RRC.
