Since 2022, UBE Composites Europe has been actively advancing the development of high-performance materials for 3D printing, supporting both Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and direct pellet extrusion technologies. By leveraging specialized composite production lines, UBE engineers tailor-made materials that deliver enhanced mechanical strength, thermal resistance, electrical performance, and processability, achieved through the precise integration of fillers, reinforcements, and functional additives

3D printing is recognized as a transformative manufacturing technology, enabling new design freedom, functional integration, and faster development cycles across industrial sectors. To meet the increasing demands of technical and industrial applications, UBE focuses on technical-grade polymers capable of performing under mechanical stress, elevated temperatures, and demanding service conditions. Key improvement areas include mechanical performance, thermal stability, custom material design, and optimized processability, as highlighted in the introductory section (page 1).

UBE’s portfolio for direct pellet printing includes reinforced (glass and carbon fibers) and colors such as PA6 with 20% glass fiber, PETG with or without glass fiber, and copolyamide 6/6.6 compounds with carbon filler and heat stabilization. These materials cover melting points from approximately 160°C to 260°C and densities ranging from 1.07 to 1.51 g/cm³, enabling designers to select the optimal balance between stiffness, weight, and thermal resistance for each application.

For direct 3D printing from pellets, UBE provides detailed technical data and printing parameters, including nozzle temperature, bed temperature, printing speed, and drying conditions. A highlighted example is a PA6/66 copolymer reinforced with 20% carbon fiber, offering a high tensile modulus and strong mechanical performance, suitable for structural and functional parts.

UBE also supports SLS technology with heat-stabilized copolyamide 6/6.6 powders, enabling fine particle control and consistent sintering behavior. Example applications shown include functional printed parts, demonstrating material robustness and design flexibility.
