The #Genesis Science Workshop 2026 brought together European Space Agency – ESA, industry and the scientific community to further advance one of the most ambitious geodetic missions ever conceived – ESA’s Genesis mission.
As Prime Contractor, OHB Italia S.p.A. is proud to contribute to a mission that will redefine how to observe and understand our Planet.
For the first time in space history, Genesis will combine the four fundamental geodetic techniques on a single well calibrated satellite platform.
This unique integration will enable the generation of an International Terrestrial Reference Frame (#ITRF) with unprecedented accuracy: 1 mm precision.
A more accurate global reference frame means:
➡️ more reliable navigation systems
➡️ improved orbit determination for all space missions
➡️ deeper insights into Earth dynamics and climate evolution.
Genesis represents therefore a major step forward in building a global, space-based geodetic infrastructure, delivering tangible scientific and societal benefits.
The workshop was a valuable key moment to align vision, expertise and innovation, strengthening collaboration among all the parties involved.
