Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and longstanding advocate for democracy, diplomacy, and international cooperation, Lee Hong-koo leaves behind a distinguished legacy of public service and global engagement.

Club de Madrid expresses its deep sorrow at the passing of Lee Hong-koo, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (1994–1995) and distinguished Member of our organization.

A respected scholar, diplomat, and political leader, Lee Hong-koo dedicated his life to public service, democratic governance, and international dialogue. Throughout his career, he served as Minister of National Unification, Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the United States, member of the National Assembly, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea.

Beyond politics, he was widely recognised for his academic contributions and his commitment to strengthening international cooperation and democratic values.

As a Member of Club de Madrid, Lee Hong-koo contributed his experience and vision to advancing multilateral dialogue and inclusive governance.

Club de Madrid extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the people of the Republic of Korea. His legacy of leadership and public service will continue to inspire future generations.
