The SNA (Air Navigation Systems) group of the ITACA Institute at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), led by researcher Juan Vicente Balbastre, has hosted the EUROCAE plenary meeting, held on 3 and 4 June at UPV.

EUROCAE is Europe’s leading organisation dedicated to the standardisation of aeronautical systems and equipment, both airborne and ground-based. It serves as a collaborative platform bringing together the main stakeholders in the aviation sector to develop standards that promote safety, reliability and technological innovation in aviation.

In this context, the plenary meeting of the WG-105 UAS working group has been held, focusing on drone traffic management systems.

“The objective of this group is to develop technical standards that enable the safe and efficient integration of unmanned aircraft systems, such as drones, into very low-level (VLL) airspace and new operational environments«, explains Juan Vicente Balbastre.

The potential of the SNA-ITACA group

Beyond its participation in leading international forums, the SNA group at the ITACA Institute stands out for its scientific and technological maturity, as well as its ability to drive applied research in a strategic field for Europe that is closely aligned with European Union priorities.

A clear example of this is the recent award of five projects under the SESAR Joint Undertaking – Horizon Europe programme, focused on the development of advanced technologies for air traffic and drone traffic management, particularly within the U-space framework.

Under the leadership of Juan Vicente Balbastre, Full Professor at UPV, these achievements consolidate the group’s position as one of Europe’s leading centres for research into the digitalisation and automation of airspace, demonstrating its scientific and technological capacity to address the major challenges facing the aviation sector of the future.
