19 December 2025
As 2025 comes to a close, we look back at a year shaped by connection, discovery and growth. At Human Technopole, progress happens when perspectives meet, between disciplines, technologies and people. Our holiday card captures this idea visually: what looks like a festive forest is actually a colon under the microscope, a structure that changes depending on how you look at it, reminding us that science often begins with a shift in perspective.
This curiosity-led approach has guided our journey throughout the years. Today HT is home to 26 research groups, more than 400 scientists and colleagues from 41 nationalities, working side by side to advance human health. Our community continues to grow through international talent and scientific activity has expanded at pace. To date, our teams have produced over 600 publications, supported by cutting-edge infrastructures and an open, collaborative ecosystem.
Across our five National Facilities, researchers have accessed high-resolution imaging, multi-scale genomics, advanced computational tools and more. Since the first pilot call opened in July 2024, 184 projects have been approved, a sign of the growing demand for the shared resources HT provides to the national scientific community.
Training and knowledge exchange have remained central to our mission. With more than 110 training events organised so far, we keep on strengthening our commitment to continuous learning, helping scientists from all over the world explore new methods, broaden their skills and bridge disciplines. In 2025, 17 PhD students graduated from HT, marking an important milestone in our role as a training hub for the next generation of researchers. We also welcomed classes of secondary schools and university students for laboratory visits and conversations with our scientists, fostering curiosity in the researchers of tomorrow.
Through the dozens of events and conferences we have organized and co-organized in 2025, we advanced national and international research collaboration. Among them, for the first time we brought our work to southern Italy with “Future Trends in Translational Medicine – 2nd edition” in Naples, bringing together world-class experts to explore translational opportunities and challenges in metabolism, cancer, rare genetic disorders, and gene therapy & RNA therapeutics.
Beyond research, 2025 was a year of commitment to our values. We strengthened sustainability through a Clothing Swap party promoting circular economy and by participating in the MIND area food collection initiative to fight food waste and support people in need. We reinforced inclusion, diversity and work-life balance with internal events from the Women Network and the Rainbow Club, alongside initiatives such as Dogs at Work Day and Children at Work Day. The presentation of the 2024 Integrated Report, which illustrated the first year of implementation of our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, was an opportunity to highlight not only the scientific impact of the Institute and its growing integration into the Italian life sciences ecosystem, but also the ongoing sustainable transformation of Human Technopole.
This reflects our belief that every person and every idea carry potential that grows through connection.
As we move into the new year, we will keep asking new questions, forging partnerships and working across scales to turn basic research into opportunities for improving human health. The curiosity that drives our science is the same spirit we wish for all our colleagues, partners and friends as 2026 begins.
Warmest wishes for a peaceful holiday season and a bright year ahead.
