Our participation in the webinar of the Junta de Castilla y León

Today, 29th November, we had the honour of participating in the Webinar organised by the Junta de Castilla y León, where experts from different areas shared their vision on the challenges and opportunities that Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents for the business fabric of the region. Throughout the day, key issues such as global and local trends in AI, success stories in the productive application, and the role of public institutions in supporting the development of the sector were addressed.

Artificial Intelligence and the future challenges for the business sector in Castilla y León

The event started with a warm welcome by Rosa Cuesta Cofrades, representing the Junta de Castilla y León. She highlighted the importance of this kind of initiatives to strengthen the adoption of AI in the region and to create a more competitive business ecosystem ready for the challenges of the future.

The first presentation was given by David Escudero-Mancebo, Director of the AI Centre at the University of Valladolid, and Ricardo S. Alonso Rincón, Director of the AIR Institute. Both gave a joint presentation in which they addressed theglobal and local challenges posed by AI for the business sector, emphasising the need to develop specialised agents and tools for task resolution and how this is affecting the industry from both a technical and economic perspective.

Success stories: Artificial Intelligence applied in the production sector

In the second part of the event, a series of success stories were presented that demonstrated how AI is having a direct impact on the productivity of companies in various sectors in Castilla y León.

Among the keynote speakers were Alberto González Merino from HORSE Valladolid, José Luis Marín from MADISON, José Ramón Estévez Fernández from ProyectaPV, and Irene Cortés Lafuente from Renault Group Spain, who shared their experiences applying AI in the metaverse, data management and industrial production, respectively.

Luce IT case study: Innovation in artificial intelligence applied to data projects

From Luce IT, we had the opportunity to present our own success story, replacing Javier Durán, who could not attend the event, our colleague Judit Pérez was in charge of representing the company. We explained how we are applying AI to improve the efficiency of data integration and operational optimisation projects for our clients.

The talk was presented by Judit Pérez, representing Javier Durán due to unforeseen circumstances, and thanking the Junta de Castilla y León for organising the conference. Judit presented Luce, a company from Valladolid that was created as a spin-off of the University of Valladolid, which is about to turn 16 years old. She explained that its purpose is to become the trusted technological innovation company, working in areas such as software development (front, back and mobile), cloud, customer experience and Big Data. He highlighted the commitment of Luce to both its customers and its employees, promoting an environment of innovation and continuous learning. He also pointed out the company’s broad client portfolio, which includes local, national and multinational projects, and the importance of its collaboration with leading technologypartners to stay ahead of the curve.

One of the central points of the intervention was the presentation of LIA, an artificial intelligence solution created by Luce. LIA was born in October 2023 and, in its first months, managed to win a Google competition that recognised its ability to generate business value. LIA is much more than an intelligent assistant, it is a versatile solution that adapts to business objectives through customised use cases.

Its cross-platform design, which means it can be deployed in various clouds such as Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, AWS, among others. LIA connects to channels such as WhatsApp, mobile apps, Telegram and enterprise systems such as CRMs or ERPs. In addition, it has a robust architecture that integrates analytics, security and monitoring, ensuring precise control over its operation.

Among the numerous LIA success stories in various sectors: banking, health, agri-food and education, the Webinar presented the specific case of public administration in Valladolid City Council.

LIA becomes “Ana”, named after a municipal employee. In this first phase, it is a documentary chat that answers queries about events, procedures and activities. Ana prioritises the reputation of the public service, avoiding answering sensitive questions or compromising on sensitive issues or showing confidential information.

Conclusions of the round table on the impact of Artificial Intelligence

During the panel discussion, speakers agreed that the AI boom of the last three years is both an accelerated evolution of pre-existing technologies and a phenomenon with rebranding aspects. While concepts such as big data, advanced algorithms and predictive analytics already existed, AI’s ability to solve more complex problems has grown exponentially thanks to advances in computing power and machine learning models. This has driven its visibility and popularisation beyond just reputational enhancement.

In terms of the measures that public authorities should take, the urgency of fostering the development of specialised AI talent through educational policies that promote technological vocations from an early age was highlighted. Incentives need to be created so that companies, especially SMEs, can integrate AI into their processes. The importance of creating public-private partnerships that foster collaboration between companies and educational institutions was also highlighted.

Finally, the importance of motivating young people to take an interest in technological disciplines by showing the positive social impact that AI can have was discussed. Incorporating AI into educational programmes and showcasing examples of success can be key to attracting new generations to these fields, thus ensuring a constant flow of professionals in this key area for the future.
