CD101: A regulator of innate immune responses with relevance to HIV and other pathogens
Host: Nyaradzo CHIGORIMBO-TSIKIWA
Abstract
Despite many heroic efforts, the biomedical research community has not yet succeeded in manipulating the adaptive immune response to provide protective immunity against HIV. However many epidemiological studies suggest that some individuals retain innate resistance to infection by HIV. In this talk, I will review data that suggest CD101, and possibly other innate immune factors, could help define host susceptibility/resistance to HIV and other infectious diseases. These innate immune regulators warrant further study to identify mechanisms by which they could be manipulated to alter infectious disease outcomes.
