Biotechnet II awareness workshop in Kampala, Uganda
Following the launch of the BiotechNet II Project in January, a series of awareness workshops has taken place across East Africa to disseminate information on the funding and training opportunities available to researchers from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.
On 23 January, ICGEB and the Kenyan National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation hosted the BiotechNet II Project Awareness Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The event was coupled with a dedicated soft skills programme, developed in collaboration with the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications, and aimed at enhancing innovation, entrepreneurship, and project development capabilities among researchers in the Life Sciences.
The workshop included lectures, interactive sessions, real-world case studies, and expert-led discussions, with actionable insights to support the translation of scientific research into innovations. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, with nationwide participation.
Other workshops followed in quick succession: in Djibouti, in collaboration with CERD, on 20 January; at Arba Minch University, Ethiopia, on 26 January; at BETIn, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 27 January; and in Kampala, Uganda, in collaboration with the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, on 30 January.
Together, these regional workshops brought together more than 200 researchers, scientists, and innovators, underscoring the project’s commitment to fostering collaboration among partner countries, strengthening skills development, and promoting innovation across East Africa’s Life Sciences ecosystem.
BiotechNet II is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented in partnership with regional and international stakeholders. Through targeted training, funding opportunities, and knowledge exchange, the project aims to contribute to building a vibrant and sustainable biotechnology and life sciences research community in the region.
