The three-time Grand Slam champion will take part in the tournament for the seventh and final time
Stan Wawrinka has received a wildcard to join the list of stars competing at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – 73rd Trofeo Conde de Godó, which will be held at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 from April 11 to 19. This will mark the seventh appearance of one of the greatest tennis players in history, who boasts victories at Roland Garros, the Australian Open, and the US Open, as well as Olympic gold in doubles with Roger Federer (Beijing 2008). In Barcelona, he has reached the semifinals twice, narrowly missing out on a final against David Ferrer and Tommy Robredo, who happen to be the tournament’s last two sporting directors.
At 40 years old, the Swiss announced in January that this would be his final season as a professional player, and Barcelona—with its rich history and tradition—was high on his list of must-play tournaments. Fans attending the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will have the chance to see, for the last time, a player who always gives his all on the court.
