Conclave 2025, operated by EuropaNova, kicked off with intense exchanges and strategic reflections, with 50 European leaders and citizens, moderated by Guillaume Klossa, Chairman of the Conclave Board. This year, we were honored to welcome back António Costa, President of the European Council, who once again graced the event with his presence and valuable insights. His return highlights the significance of this gathering and underscores his ongoing commitment to supporting European ambitions.
🔹 First Session: Geopolitics, including Defense and Security
Moderated by Philippe Étienne and Loukas Tsoukalis, Conclave Board members, this session delved into today’s most pressing geopolitical issues, with a focus on strengthening Europe’s defense and security in the context of rising tensions between China and the US, and the re-election of Donald Trump. These dynamics are reshaping global relations, raising the crucial question of Europe’s strategic autonomy amidst growing geopolitical uncertainty.
🔹 Second Session: Science and Technology as Drivers of Competitiveness
Moderated by Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and Maria João Rodrigues , also members of the Conclave Board, this session explored how scientific and technological innovation can drive Europe’s economic resurgence. In an increasingly interconnected world, Europe’s competitiveness hinges on ambitious digital transformation and mastery of emerging technologies like AI, green energy, and biotechnology.
🔹 Third Session: Financing European Ambitions, Leadership, and Narrative
Moderated by Grégoire Roos and Dr. Malte Zabel, this session highlighted the critical need for financing Europe’s ambitions while redefining its leadership and narrative. How can the EU fund its major initiatives while staying true to its core values and asserting its role in a multipolar world?
