InnoCaption, a leading provider of real-time call captioning, today announced new Text-to-Speech (TTS) features that enable stress-free phone conversations for users with hearing loss or speech disabilities who have difficulty speaking or being understood on calls. These powerful new features – QuickSpeak, Saved Phrases and AI Refine – address the inefficiency of traditional TTS options, giving InnoCaption users greater confidence and independence in their daily lives.

With over a decade of experience at the forefront of innovation in call captioning, InnoCaption developed its new TTS features based on feedback from members of the community who wanted to have smoother, more authentic conversations when typing to express themselves. The new features seamlessly integrate into the intuitive InnoCaption app – the only solution that offers users the choice of AI captioning or live human stenographers on every call. InnoCaption is FCC certified and free of charge for individuals in the US with a hearing loss or speech disability.

Features and Benefits:

  • QuickSpeak: Pre-written phrases that are voiced aloud as soon as they’re selected. Perfect for greetings or short, frequently used messages like “Please hold while I’m typing” that need to be sent right away.
  • Saved Phrases: A library where users can store commonly used phrases and categorize them to streamline everyday communication. Once selected, Saved Phrases can be edited and incorporated into longer messages.
  • AI Refine: Turns a few words (e.g. “make appointment”) into complete, natural-sounding sentences with a single tap, helping users stay present in the conversation instead of focusing on typing.
  • AI Practice Calls: Users can practice using the new TTS features with different AI-powered personas, enabling them to make test calls in a low-stress simulated setting, like ordering pizza or calling the doctor’s office.

InnoCaption users who have tested AI Refine report a significant improvement in the flow of their calls, noting that the feature allows them to communicate complex thoughts with greater ease and confidence. These new TTS features are an important step towards InnoCaption’s mission to provide the best accessible communication technology to deaf and hard of hearing individuals and those who don’t voice for themselves.

“We are constantly striving to build solutions that meet the needs of our user community,” said Paul Lee, InnoCaption’s Chief Operating Officer. “AI Refine is a prime example of how we can responsibly leverage cutting-edge AI to create a positive impact. Our commitment is to break down communication barriers, and these new features are the latest step in making every conversation more authentic and accessible for our users.”

The impact of these tools is best described by those who rely on them daily.

“Most of the world expects deaf people to communicate in ways that are not built for us,” said Hayden Daum, InnoCaption user and social media influencer. “With AI Refine and text-to-speech shortcuts, InnoCaption has given me the right tools to help me be heard – one that doesn’t change who I am but changes how clearly I am being understood.”

“InnoCaption has long helped deaf and hard of hearing individuals make phone calls through its excellent captioning and text-to-speech functionality,” says Warren “Wawa” Snipe, an InnoCaption user, who is also a pioneering Deaf recording artist, actor, and creator of “Dip Hop” (hip hop reimagined by Deaf artists). “The new AI Refine feature is a game changer that allows me to type a few words and transform them into a full clear sentence. It helps me stay focused on the call and not the keyboard – because I don’t have to worry about typing perfectly or falling behind in a conversation.”

QuickSpeak, Saved Phrases and AI Refine are now available in the InnoCaption app for iOS and Android.
