The CEU Abat Oliba University hosted the international meeting of the European project Climate Change Awareness in the Mediterranean from a Youth Perspective (Youth4CliMed), an initiative that seeks to raise awareness among young people about the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean and its coastal countries.

Over the course of three days, project members met on campus to share progress, discuss new areas of work and strengthen international collaboration on sustainability and the protection of the Mediterranean environment. The organisation of the meeting at the CEU UAO was led by Dr. Carmen Parra, Dr. Olga Lasaga and Dr. Jesús López, lecturers from different disciplines who represent the University in this European project.

The working sessions, held in the University’s Graduation Hall, combined presentations on the project’s status, working dynamics between partners and opportunities for reflection on strengthening awareness-raising activities aimed at young people. On the final day, a round-table meeting was held at the University, which featured experts from the Mediterranean maritime and logistics sectors, including representatives of the Nautical Cluster of Barcelona, Barcelona Activa, the Port of Barcelona Civil Guard, the European School – Intermodal Transport and the UNESCO Chair Devenirs in the Mediterranean.

The programme also included two important institutional visits. During the first, participants visited the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), where they learned firsthand about the work this institution carries out in the fields of regional cooperation and sustainability. They also visited the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, an emblematic space that allowed the debate on the Mediterranean to be contextualized from a historical, cultural and economic perspective.

The Youth4CliMed project, coordinated by DEHUKAM (Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law) and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, brings together institutions from Turkey, Italy, Croatia and Spain. Its mission is to promote sustainable solutions for the Mediterranean and encourage greater involvement of young people in the fight against climate change.
