Our Tennium Player, Sorana Cîrstea, delivered one of the most impressive performances of the week at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, reaching the semifinals of the WTA 1000 event in Rome after a remarkable run on clay.
She opened her campaign with a dominant win over Germany’s Tatjana Maria in the Round of 64 (6-2, 6-0), setting the tone for an exceptional week in the Italian capital.
In the Round of 32, Cîrstea produced one of the biggest victories of the tournament, defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set battle (2-6, 6-3, 7-5), showing her resilience and experience on one of the biggest stages in tennis.
She continued her strong form in the Round of 16 with a solid win over Czech player Linda Nosková (6-2, 6-4), before securing her place in the semifinals after a hard-fought victory against Jelena Ostapenko (6-1, 7-6) in the quarterfinals.
Competing in her final season on tour, every match carries an added layer of meaning, and this run in Rome once again highlighted her competitiveness and ability to perform at the highest level.
