At the International Aerospace Exhibition #ILA Berlin, OHB Italia S.p.A., Prime Contractor, and Cosine Remote Sensing S.r.l. from Benevento (Italy) have officially signed today a contract for the supply of HAMLET for the ESA-JAXA’s mission #Ramses (Rapid Apophis Mission for Space Safety).

#HAMLET is a hyperspectral payload that will provide a major contribution by studying the spectral changes of Apophis, including those caused by tidal forces.

The signing ceremony, held at the OHB SE booth, further strengthens the industrial team created by OHB Italia for Ramses and reinforces Europe’s commitment to advancing #PlanetaryDefence capabilities.

Scheduled to rendezvous with asteroid #Apophis ahead of its exceptionally close flyby of Earth in April 2029, Ramses will provide scientists with a unique opportunity to observe how a near-Earth asteroid responds to our Planet’s gravitational influence.

The agreement brings together complementary expertise from across the Italian space sector, contributing to a mission that will support advanced space safety research.

“Ramses is far more than a space mission. It is a unique opportunity that may not occur again for generations. By studying Apophis during its close encounter with Earth, we will gain knowledge that is essential to safeguard our Planet. Building on the extraordinary heritage of Hera, successfully delivered by OHB SE for ESA, Ramses will take planetary defence research a step further. While Hera has helped us better understand how humanity can interact with an asteroid, Ramses will allow us to witness how an asteroid interacts with Earth itself.” – stated Roberto Aceti, Managing Director of OHB Italia S.p.A.
