ALDER today announced the launch of ALDER AI, marking the beginning of its next chapter focused on monitored video surveillance and AI threat detection. The launch follows more than 15 years of building and scaling businesses in the security industry and the strategic sale of hundreds of thousands of legacy alarm accounts over the past couple years.
Today, ALDER and its affiliated brands remain in strong financial positions, with established businesses spanning DIY security, hardware and software sectors and generating millions of dollars in recurring monthly revenue. That foundation, combined with years of operating experience and established infrastructure, positions Alder to invest in where leadership believes the security industry is headed next: intelligent, monitored video powered by artificial intelligence.
From Alarms to Intelligent Video
Adam Schanz, founder and CEO of ALDER, has led the organization through more than 15 years of growth and evolution in the security industry. “For years, the alarm system was at the center of the security industry, and cameras were an addition to it. We believe that relationship is changing,” said Schanz. “Video is increasingly becoming the center of the experience, and AI gives us the ability to make that video more intelligent, proactive and useful. ALDER AI is about building around that shift.”
ALDER AI will focus on monitored video surveillance and AI threat detection, combining intelligent cameras, 24/7 monitoring, real-time notifications, NVR technology, wireless 4G connectivity, solar-powered solutions and software. The goal is to move beyond cameras that simply provide recordings after an event and toward technology designed to help identify potential threats, create real-time awareness and make monitored video more actionable.
“We've spent more than 15 years learning how to build sales organizations, acquire customers, develop technology and operate at scale,” Schanz said. “We successfully built and monetized a substantial legacy alarm portfolio that I am proud of the people and teams that participated with us along the way. Today our affiliated brands remain financially strong with substantial recurring revenue. That gives us the ability to look forward and invest in what we believe is the next major evolution of the industry and have major impact.”
ALDER AI's Leadership
As part of this next phase, Zac Whitworth will lead ALDER AI as Managing Director, with responsibility for the overall growth and execution of the program, including sales, field operations, distribution, operations and recruiting for national expansion.
Whitworth brings extensive experience building and scaling direct-to-consumer sales organizations and has a long history with Alder. In his new role, he will be charged with bringing together Alder's existing infrastructure and operating experience with a new generation of technology, talent and growth initiatives.
“We have a unique opportunity to build with the energy and ambition of something new, while drawing on the experience, infrastructure and resources of an organization that has been doing this successfully for a long time,” said Whitworth. “One of ALDER’s greatest strengths is the team already here. Leaders like Matt Harris have a proven track record of scaling the sales organization and developing great people, and we have some of the best sales talent I’ve worked around in this industry. I’m excited to build on that foundation — adding great new people and applying our experience to a technology and market we believe have an enormous future.”
Building opportunities for the people who drive that growth will also be an important part of the ALDER AI strategy.
ALDER’s sales organizations have paid millions of dollars in commissions over the company's history. ALDER AI plans to build on that foundation with residual compensation programs that allow qualifying team members to participate in the benefits of robust commissions, recurring revenue, internships, scholarships and leadership opportunities for college students and emerging professionals.
“We want great people to have the opportunity not only to earn with us, but to build with us in a way they cannot at any other organization,” Whitworth said. “The future will be built off what we have learned from the past, and we want great people to benefit from all the unique opportunities this organization provides and I’m excited to be a part of it. Owning the hardware, software, distribution, and the entire customer experience with this technology sets this opportunity apart.”
