ICGEB Director-General Dr Lawrence Banks leads a team from ICGEB, including Cape Town Component Director, Dr Luiz Zerbini whilst visiting three South African HDIs last week.

From 4-6 June 2024, ICGEB visited the Mangosuthu University of Technology, University of Zululand, and the Sefako Makghato Health Sciences University, as part of the ICGEB Special Programme with South African Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs), in partnership with the South African Department of Science and Innovation.

The ICGEB Special Programme, created to develop and support capacity development in South African HDIs, has now opened its 3rd call, with a closing date of 8 July 2024.

ICGEB is an immensely proud partner in this Special Programme, with the Cape Town Component playing a leading role. The Programme has already supported eleven Collaborative Research Grants, Fellowships, as well as Meetings and Courses activities.

The visits offered an opportunity for the ICGEB to interact with the various Health, Sciences and Agricultural researchers, with a view to enhancing interaction between researchers at ICGEB and the HDIs, as well as work together as part of the ICGEB Special Programme. Currently, the ICGEB is discussing the MOUs to be signed with each institution.
