We are proud to announce Rebecca Moccia‘s participation in the Italian Pavilion at the 15th edition of the Gwangju Biennale.

Produced by IIC Seoul, and supported by the Embassy of Italy in Korea, the Bomun Welfare Foundation, and Mazzoleni, the Italian Pavilion is curated by Dr Soik Jung  and presents the work of Italian artist Rebecca Moccia.

Unfolding once again in the spaces of the prestigious Dongok Art Museum in Gwangju, the exhibition titled Ministries of Loneliness will present a reflection and investigation on the structural, cultural, and social frameworks of loneliness. Consisting in two parts, the Pavilion will include both an archive of Moccia’s previous research in Italy, UK, Japan, Canada, and the United States, and a new production related to Korea, resulting from a participative research that the artist has conducted during a series of residencies in Seoul thanks to the partnership with the Seoul Institute of the Arts.

Once again, the Italian Pavilion aims to enter in conversation with the main exhibition, this time curated by Nicolas Burriaud, by connecting with the central themes and leitmotiv of the Biennale. Additionally, the Italian Pavilion proves the ongoing commitment of the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, under the direction of Michela Linda Magri, to promote young and emerging Italian artists, offering them a possibility to explore new horizons abroad and connect with the Korean territory.
The Italian Pavilion will be open to the public from September 8th to December 1st, 2024.

The Italian Pavilion is organised by IIC Seoul, Dong-gok Art Museum, and the Bomun Welfare Foundation; it is supported by the Embassy of Italy in Korea, The Bomun Welfare Foundation, and Mazzoleni, London – Torino.
