Meeting in São Paulo this week, the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology of Brazil discussed the ICGEB Regional Research Centre to be hosted in São Paulo with Director-General Lawrence Banks.
18 October 2024: The ICGEB delegation, comprising Lawrence Banks, ICGEB DG, Luiz Zerbini, Director, ICGEB Cape Town and Raffaella Agosti, Personal Assistant to the DG, met with Minister Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil. Discussions focused on the signing of a technical cooperation agreement for Brazil to host an ICGEB Regional Research Centre (RRC).
The future centre will operate in the city of São Paulo, from the Centre for Translational Research in Oncology, a research unit of the Hospital das Clínicas at the University of São Paulo (USP). The aim of the RRC will be to carry out scientific research, transfer technology to industry and provide training at the national and international level.
Earlier in the week a site visit took place at the location of the RRC with Prof. Rafael Bustamante, Member of the ICGEB Council of Scientific Advisers of Mexico also present. The visit was hosted by Prof. Roger Chammas, University of São Paulo (USP), and by Prof. Bryan Eric Strauss, USP, organiser of the meeting on Nucleic Acids and Nanobiosystems in Cancer Theranostics being held between 16-19 October 2024.
Brazil has been a full Member State of ICGEB since 1990.
