High Data Volume/Throughput Pdt System Tasks For Next Generation Copernicus Missions
OHB Italia S.p.A. has actively contributed to the design and development of the #Sentinel1 A/B/C/D missions within the #Copernicus program, gaining valuable experience that is now being applied to the upcoming Next Generation missions.

These new programs focus on increasing the volume of #scientificdata collected, aiming to significantly enhance scientific objectives as well as spatial and temporal resolutions. According to #ESA, the data volume to be acquired and downloaded for the Sentinel1-NG mission is estimated at 6 Gbps input and 10 Gbps downlink rates.

🚀 Leveraging on our established expertise, OHB Italia S.p.A. has developed an advanced method to design the Payload Data Transmission (#PDT) system for high data throughput missions. This enables the definition of key PDT characteristics based on:

Satellite orbit
Number and location of ground stations
Platform housekeeping telemetries
Scientific data rates based on satellite orbit locations.

A case study on the Sentinel1-NG mission demonstrated that, with just 3 polar ground stations, it is possible to design a suitable PDT system that optimizes #datatransmission and improves the overall #missionperformance.
