At 21 years old, he already has 16 titles under his belt, including Wimbledon, Roland Garros and the US Open, as well as being the youngest number one in the ATP ranking in history
Carlos Alcaraz confirms his participation in the next Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – 72nd Trofeo Conde de Godó, which will be held on the courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 from April 12 to 20. As a result, the current number three in the world will seek his third title in Barcelona after those he achieved in 2023 against Stefanos Tsitsipas and in 2022 against Pablo Carreño. In 2024 he was unable to participate due to injury, but completed a brilliant season with the conquest of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, in addition to the Indian Wells and Beijing tournaments.
Carlos Alcaraz is very happy to play the tournament again in 2025. “I am very happy to play in Barcelona again and fight to get my third title,” he said. “It is a very special tournament for me, with a lot of history and it is played on courts that I have known very well since I was a child. In addition, having all the affection of the people in the stands makes it even more exciting.”
For his part, David Ferrer, sports director of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, is very excited about the participation of the tennis player from Murcia. “Carlos Alcaraz is a unique player, with a lot of charisma and who, in addition, has fun on the court. He has exceptional skills which allow him to dominate the point against any rival and that makes him different from any other player. And we are talking about the youngest tennis player in history to be number one in the world. He still has a whole career ahead of him to continue improving and developing as a player. He will be the great dominator of the circuit for the next ten years, without a doubt,” said Ferrer. In recent years, the Barcelona tournament has served as a springboard to discover emerging stars such as the Murcian, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas or Casper Ruud, who starred in the finals played in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Barcelona, a court he knows very well
Carlos Alcaraz made his debut on the RCTB-1899 courts at the age of 11 and, since then, he has played on numerous occasions until becoming a professional. Despite his youth, Alcaraz has many years of experience on the clay of Barcelona and that makes him a very difficult player to beat. In 2019, at the age of 15, the Murcian tennis player made his first appearance at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell thanks to an invitation from the organization. He played in the qualifying round and lost in his debut against the Portuguese Pedro Sousa. In 2021 he made his debut in the main draw at the age of 17, losing in the first round to the American Frances Tiafoe. In 2022, in his second participation in the main draw in Barcelona, he won the title after beating his training partner Pablo Carreño in the final by 6-3, 6-2. In 2023, Alcaraz lifted his second trophy in Barcelona after beating Nuno Borges, Roberto Bautista, Alejandro Davidovich, Daniel Evans and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-3, 6-4).
