The 5th Meeting of the Transport, Distribution, and Storage (T&D and Storage) Vertical of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) took place on March 18 at the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) in the Basque Country. This key industry gathering brought together leading experts and stakeholders to discuss the latest advancements in hydrogen transport, distribution, and storage, further reinforcing the Basque Country’s leadership in the global hydrogen sector.
A Strategic Event for the Hydrogen Industry
The event, jointly organized by BH2C and the Energy Cluster of the Basque Country (ACE), underscored the region’s commitment to developing a robust hydrogen ecosystem. BH2C, a collaborative network of 78 organizations, is at the forefront of driving decarbonization and technological innovation. Meanwhile, ACE, a non-profit association with 200 members, promotes collaboration to enhance the competitiveness of the Basque energy sector. Together, these initiatives are positioning the Basque Country as a leader in green hydrogen production and industrial transformation.
This meeting provided a crucial platform for discussions on the evolution of regulatory frameworks, the technical and economic challenges in hydrogen transport, distribution, and storage, as well as the progress of various regional and international projects. Additionally, participants gained valuable insights into cutting-edge research and development efforts required to build the necessary hydrogen infrastructure to support industry growth.
TUBACEX Showcases Innovation in Hydrogen Storage
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the DESSERT project, delivered by Dr. Yasmina Portilla Nieto from TUBACEX INNOVACIÓN, the research and development arm of the TUBACEX Group and the coordinating entity of the project. Titled “Development of an Advanced Connection for the Hydrogen Production Chain in Underground Formations”, the presentation focused on groundbreaking technologies designed to enhance hydrogen storage in underground formations, a critical component of the hydrogen value chain.
Dr. Beatriz Fernández and Dr. Eduardo Tabares from Tekniker, partners of the DESSERT project, were also present, contributing their expertise to the discussions.
Driving the Future of Green Hydrogen
The 5th Meeting of the T&D and Storage Vertical highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in achieving the European Union’s decarbonization goals. By fostering synergies among industry players, research institutions, and policymakers, the Basque Country continues to advance the development of a robust hydrogen economy, reinforcing its role as a global leader in this emerging sector.
TUBACEX remains committed to innovation and sustainability, actively contributing to projects that pave the way for a cleaner, greener energy future.
