4 September 2025: ICGEB welcomes Prof. Abhay Karnadikar, DST Secretary, who headed an Italo-Indian delegation visiting Trieste Headquarters.
Dr. Banks greeted the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Abhay Karnadikar, and colleagues, and spent the morning together with ICGEB colleagues, Indian researchers based at ICGEB Trieste and the members of the delegation from DST, Dr. Ramkrishna Sahoo, Scientist C, International Cooperation Division, and Dr. Praveenkumar Somasundaram, Senior Scientist, Head, International Cooperation, Division and National Supercomputing Mission.
Prof. Karandikar stated, “We were briefed on ICGEB’s activities with a special focus on India. The New Delhi component of ICGEB was highlighted as a major hub of innovation and translational research.”
Discussions focused on the burgeoning Bioeconomy in India, including the BioE3 programme, biomanufacturing, biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthcare, as well as projects enhancing the internationalisation of the ICGEB.
Prof. Sergio Ledda, Scientific Attaché, Italian Embassy, New Delhi, emphasized the importance of multilateral science cooperation, such as the Mattei Plan of Italy for Africa.
