Media Advisory: CUPE to Respond to Deborah Onwu Fatality Inquiry

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will respond to the expected release tomorrow of the Fatality Inquiry regarding the death of Deborah Onwu. Onwu was a Calgary resident and a Family and Youth Councillor employed by Woods Homes who was stabbed nineteen times by a client on October 3, 2019.

Onwu was a member of CUPE, and the union requested the inquiry following her death.

Present tomorrow at the news conference will be:

  • Raj Uppal, CUPE Alberta President
  • Troy Winters, Senior Officer (Health and Safety) CUPE. Winters was a witness at the Inquiry
  • Wael Elrafih, President, CUPE Local 4731
  • Peggy Wright, MLA – NDP shadow minister for Labour
