Pretties and national sport, it's an Australian pastime, it brings communities together so fan engagement is at the very core of everything we think about here at Cricket Australia. We're engaging with more than a million fans on the Cricket Australia Live app. The challenge for us is to personalize their experience when I'm watching a cricket match, I'm paying attention to the battle between bat and ball. It's fascinating, it keeps me involved it's a pretty nuanced sport it can speed up or surprise you at any point in the game and I love to follow along and. And more about the players. AI Insights provides a level of opportunity for all fans of whether that's engaging with the rich statistics and history of the sport or it's just learning the simple rules and regulations, ease of use and accuracy to check the player starts to check the match starts was non negotiable for us. And as you're open, I just hit the mark. Millions of data points that sits in our Azure Cosmos DB are being served to our fans in sub seconds. Well, that's a good strike. He's a strong boy. He's Ryan Harris. I like that I can switch between profiles, so most of the time I'm a newbie. Sometimes I'll switch to stats guru. I like to deep dive, especially on great players, what their stats are, what they're known for. I could really see myself finding out information about test history. I noticed that the AI insights go as far back as the 1800s. Even for such a set up in a way that is scalable, it gives us a whole new Ave. to interact with our fans like never before. The frequency on which they use the app that has increased by 30% from the past season to the current season. Cricket is a game that's in your blood. We're all from different parts of life, but we're connected to cricket in the game that we love. AI Insights gives us the ability to supercharge someone's knowledge of the game, make them feel part of a community and part of the sport.

Love this! Turning over a century of cricket data into real-time, context-aware insights with Azure OpenAI is a brilliant way to deepen fan engagement - perfect for both die-hard fans and newcomers. Great example of practical AI in sports.

A great way to get fans more insight about the game and players... Schools are just not enough in sports

It's inspiring to see how AI is bringing a centuries-old sport into the digital age. This is the perfect example of technology fueling passion!

Interesting use case—sports + data + engagement. This is where technology starts enhancing not just information, but experience

Having lived in Australia for 18 years, I can confidently say that decoding the rules of cricket is no small feat - I tried, failed, gave up! 😂 But jokes aside, this is a marvelous showcase of the real power of the AI ecosystem that transforms incredibly dense, historically complex data sets like decades of cricket statistics, making them instantly accessible to the end-user. When you use AI to remove the friction of understanding, you drive immediate adoption. If it can democratize cricket for a curious bystander such as myself, what can it do for complex data in the enterprise?

The best interfaces disappear into the experience, Aristotle called this eudaimonia, flourishing without friction. When AI lets fans stop searching and start understanding, that's not a product feature, that's a philosophy delivered at scale.

Absolutely agree. This is precisely what makes AI so fascinating in sports. Combining Azure OpenAI with historical data since 1886 goes beyond simply displaying scores; it imbues each match with a "context-aware" narrative—something traditional statistics can never achieve. Mathematical models like DLS are already powerful, but LLM truly brings them to life, providing fans and analysts with a more immersive and profound experience. This is not merely a technological upgrade, but an evolution in sports content and decision-making. I look forward to seeing it rapidly implemented in sports beyond cricket!

The cricket app story isn't really about sports tech. It's about what happens when you give a domain-specific dataset to a foundation model and let it surface the latent connections that domain experts never formally encoded. Cricket has one of the richest structured data histories in sports: ball-by-ball records going back decades, pitch and weather conditions, player form across formats, opposition matchup patterns. What AI surfaces from that corpus isn't just better statistics. It's pattern recognition across variables that no human analyst could hold in working memory simultaneously. The teams across pharma, logistics, and financial services that figure this out aren't building AI products. They're building the first real-time knowledge infrastructure for fields where tacit expert knowledge has never been systematically captured. Cricket is the prototype.

This is a great example of how AI can make sports more personal and interactive. Fans don’t just want scores anymore they want stories, context, and a deeper connection with the players and the game.

There’s a subtle shift happening here. It’s not just about bringing fans closer to the game. It’s about turning data-rich environments into decision-rich experiences. The real question isn’t how much insight we can generate… It’s how much of it is contextual, trusted, and actionable in real time Because whether it’s cricket or critical systems, insight without context is just noise The systems that win are the ones that translate data -> understanding -> action, seamlessly. Feels like moving from scorecards… to real-time game intelligence..
