Today, at the Small Satellite Conference in Amsterdam, #RobertoAceti, CEO of OHB Italia S.p.A., delivered a #KeynoteSpeech focused on how the “legacy” space industry is evolving in the era of satellite constellations and of the New Space approaches, using the #IRIDE/Eaglet II programme as a concrete example.
The message was clear: space is changing fast.
Modern missions increasingly require #constellations of small satellites able to provide continuous Earth observation, low latency services and rapid revisit times. But it was also highlighted an important point, often overlooked outside the sector: small satellites are not “easy satellites”.
They are compact, thermally sensitive, power-constrained systems that demand industrial precision, rapid production cycles and extremely smart engineering choices.
During the speech, OHB Italia S.p.A. emerged as an innovative and highly research-oriented company capable of combining the heritage of traditional space engineering with the speed and flexibility required by modern constellations. Through the IRIDE programme (24 satellites developed across multiple orbital planes in just a few years), the company has built an industrial approach to space manufacturing, reaching production rhythms of one satellite every two weeks.
