The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA-UPV) held a new edition of ITACA-WIICT on 16 July at the Universitat Politècnica de València’s City of Innovation.
The event provided a meeting point for researchers, professionals and members of the university community to present the latest scientific and technological advances developed at the institute, exchange knowledge and explore new opportunities for internal collaboration.
The opening session featured Salvador Coll, María Guillem, Antonio Martínez and Carlos Fernández, who highlighted the importance of technology transfer in transforming university research into innovative solutions that create value for industry and society.
Raising awareness of the impact of science
Throughout the morning, ITACA researchers presented their projects and main results through the “ITACA with Impact” Round Robin, “The Golden Minute” and a poster session. These formats enabled researchers to showcase their work in a direct, dynamic and accessible way.
The program also included a talk by Emilio Soria, Professor at the Universitat de València and Academic Director of Datamecum, entitled “Desenmarañando la IA, desde la docencia hasta la investigación”. His presentation addressed the main opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.
The closing session was delivered by science communicator Luis Quevedo, who presented “Cómo convertir resultados en historias”. His talk focused on the importance of communicating scientific findings through clear, engaging and rigorous narratives capable of bringing research closer to society.
Presentation of awards and distinctions
One of the highlights of ITACA-WIICT 2026 was the presentation of the ITACA–Industry Collaboration Medal to Krones, in recognition of ten years of cooperation between the German company and the DIMAS-ITACA research group, led by José Manuel Catalá.
The event concluded with the presentation of several awards and distinctions recognising the scientific activity of ITACA researchers over the past year, as well as the projects carried out and the results achieved.
