La conferenza si terrà in italiano e inglese
Sulla base del Dialogus de scientia politica, la conferenza esaminerà i fondamenti teorici dello Stato romano tardoantico, esplorando le concezioni del potere monarchico e gli ideali del buon governo, con particolare riferimento alla teoria platonica e agli ideali del pensiero costituzionale romano. Successivamente, la conferenza si concentrerà sulla possibile attribuzione dell’opera, sul pubblico cui il testo era destinato e sulla sua forma letteraria. Infine, l’analisi prenderà in esame il rapporto tra l’imperatore e i diversi gruppi il cui consenso era essenziale all’interno dello Stato romano, ossia il senato, l’esercito, i cittadini di Costantinopoli e la Chiesa. In questo modo, la conferenza offrirà nuove prospettive su un testo di grande interesse e rilevanza per una migliore comprensione del regno di Giustiniano I e del pensiero politico dell’Impero romano tardoantico, nel quadro degli attuali sviluppi della ricerca scientifica.
