A distinguished recognition of his sustained contributions to malaria research and biomedical science
Dr. Asif Mohammed, Group Leader of the Parasite Cell Biology Group at ICGEB New Delhi, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), India’s premier national academy dedicated to the promotion and advancement of science.
Dr. Mohammed completed his PhD from the University of Delhi in 1999 and joined ICGEB, New Delhi, as a Research Scientist. He established his independent research programme in 2004 and was appointed Group Leader in 2016.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Mohammed has contributed to infectious disease research, with a focus on the cell biology of malaria parasites, aimed at identifying novel drug targets and developing new antimalarial strategies.
His scientific contributions have been recognised with several prestigious honours, including the National Bioscience Award (2012) from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and election as a Fellow of The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
His election to INSA is a significant recognition of his sustained contributions to malaria research and biomedical science, and is a moment of great pride for the entire ICGEB community.
