Strategies relating to Digital Responsibility now draw on several years’ experience within large organisations. However, these strategies still face the dual challenge of ensuring their long-term sustainability and scaling them up, particularly in a context where attention to these issues can quickly be diluted by the multitude of other priorities. It is therefore essential to regain the momentum needed to sustainably embed these practices within organisations.

A practical framework to target and prioritise key initiatives

This ’30 Must-Do Actions for Sustainable IT’ framework was designed to address the need for strategic alignment and operational efficiency. Drawing on the most recent shared experiences and the collective intelligence of the working group’s participants, this deliverable serves as a toolkit listing essential and quick-win measures. Covering areas from governance to procurement, equipment management, accessibility, and the optimisation of cloud and data centres, each action has been designed and assessed based on its level of impact and implementation difficulty, enabling organisations to quickly identify key priorities. To support the day-to-day roll-out, a status tracking system (‘not started’, ‘under consideration’, ‘in progress’, ‘stalled’, ‘completed’) is also provided, offering a management tool to monitor the progress of each workstream.

A turnkey solution tailored to each organisation’s maturity level

This framework has been designed to inspire action and to adapt to the realities of different organisations – whether private companies or public sector bodies – regardless of their level of maturity:

  • For organisations in the initiation phase or at an intermediate stage, this framework provides a clear roadmap for structuring the process, launching the first projects and achieving initial tangible results.
  • For members with greater maturity in this area, this framework provides an ideal structure for self-assessment. It enables teams to objectively gauge the progress of their practices, identify any blind spots, or verify that these prerequisites are indeed being implemented across the entire organisation.

Scaling up Digital Responsibility remains a demanding challenge in itself, requiring the involvement of multiple stakeholders and integration into the day-to-day practices of business units. The aim is therefore to enable every organisation to easily adopt these 30 essential actions, so as to build a solid foundation for consolidating and sustaining their strategies.

Today, environmental issues tend to be sidelined, as geopolitical developments and the rise of generative and agent-based AI dominate the headlines. Yet the facts are clear: climate change is a reality we cannot ignore. These issues are not competing but interdependent, and it is indeed as a global system that we must address them. Every individual and every organisation must therefore take action to limit the environmental impact of their activities, and this document aims to make a modest contribution to this existential imperative.” – Christophe Boulaire, Global CIO of SAGEMCOM, leader of the ‘Digital Responsibility’ working group.
