The exhibition, which will be in Boston (MA) from March 15th, features over 700 original objects from the Collections of the Auschwitz Birkenau State Museum and over 20 other international Museums and institutions.
In remembrance of the past lies the strength to navigate present challenges and shape a better future. In an effort to illuminate one of the darkest chapters in our history, Musealia, together with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum created“Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away”, which will be shown for a limited time in Boston at The Castle at Park Plaza.
A carefully curated exhibition developed by a panel of experts that include Dr. Robert Jan van Pelt (Main Curator), Dr. Paul Salmons and Dr. Michael Berenbaum, that shows the complex reality of this place to millions of people and elucidates, during a highly moving intellectual trip, how it could come into being and how its existence determines our worldview even today.
“An exhibition this substantial and comprehensive on Auschwitz is unprecedented and is unlikely to ever be assembled again. Lending institutions all over the world have come together to make it possible, and it is a unique opportunity for everyone to visit” shared Luis Ferreiro, Director of Musealia. “This is not merely an exhibition; it’s a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a stark reminder of the atrocities committed during this dark period. It explores and presents the history of Auschwitz, both as a physical location – the site of the largest mass murder in history- and as a symbol and metaphor of human barbarism”.
Those who have visited the exhibition have often described it as transformative. It challenges preconceived notions, evokes empathy and compassion, and fosters a deeper appreciation for the value of human rights and dignity while serving as a poignant reminder of the dangers of indifference and the consequences of remaining silent in the face of injustice.
During its time in Boston, “Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away” invites everybody on the East Coast and beyond to remember, to learn, and to honor the memories of those who perished in the Holocaust. It reminds us that the lesson of history must never be forgotten and that it is our responsibility to ensure that such atrocities never are repeated.
