The Wine Edition Wines of Spain, the globally important wine congress hosted by Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España, will present new developments and discoveries in the world of wine
Producers, distributors, sommeliers and chefs will gather at the unmissable annual event in the wine calendar to deliver an exciting programme of education, insight and inspiration.
- Winemakers, chefs and industry experts will come together at the important congress to showcase all corners of the world of wine and its gastronomic application
- Tasting experiences and educational sessions will be held throughout the event, giving visitors an opportunity to savour the wines from Spain and beyond while discovering the direction of travel for beverage programmes
- Leading voices in Spanish wine, including sommeliers from Michelin-starred restaurants María José Huertas (La Terraza del Casino**) and Santi Carillo (El Corral de La Morería*) as well as Fernando Mora MW.
- The Discovery Wines area will be the showcase for key names in wine production from across the country.
For the fifth consecutive year, The Wine Edition Wines from Spain will welcome food and drink enthusiasts at Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España, considered the world’s most important gastronomic congress.
By now established as an integral part of the famous gastronomic congress, The Wine Edition Wines from Spain will attract visitors from across the hospitality sector who visit to learn and be inspired. They can expect an extensive and expansive programme in the dedicated auditorium and exhibition space in IFEMA, offering a large selection of presentations, demonstrations and tasting experiences featuring wines from the breadth of Spain and beyond.
Local to global
The exhibition space and tasting area of The Wine Edition Wines from Spain acts as the central forum where producers exhibit their wines and visitors come to learn about new trends, innovations and experiences.
Experts will guide attendees through a series of singular experiences, featuring outstanding vintages and taking pairing ideas in different directions while sharing new initiatives in the world of wine.
Gathering a vast selection of producers, this area will showcase the rich tapestry of Spain’s winemaking heritage, representing regions, from the volcanic lands of Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Catalonia, Andalucía and Galicia. Visitors can experience and taste wine from a vast number of winemakers.
As in previous editions, a mix of established brands and new operators will come together with profiles from gastronomy to showcase the diverse world of wine. Some highlights of the tasting area include:
- A presentation of the wines from Finca La Capilla with food from Madrid restaurant Varra will see the restaurant’s head chef and sommelier joining together with the winemakers in an exploration of creativity and elegance in pairings on Monday 27th
- International sessions include a talk on the wines of Portugal, imparted by Portuguese winemaker Tiago Macena MW on Tuesday 28th January, and an insight into Georgian wines and pairings, hosted by Georgian wine ambassador Irraki Cholobargia on Wednesday 29th
- From the Michelin-starred flamenco tablao El Corral de La Morería, sommelier Santi Carillo will share a presentation on the wines from Andalucía on Wednesday 29th
- A sweeping overview of wine and wine culture across the Spanish peninsula, delivered by authoritative voices, such as Fernando Mora MW who will give a talk on red wines from Galicia and María José Huertas, sommelier of La Terraza del Casino** in Madrid, who will share insights on the great white wines of Catalonia.
- Across the Discovery Wines area visitors will find leaders in the world of wine, including Jose Pariente, Alto Buen Grado/ La Cendra, Virgen de Galir, Lavinia, Torremilanos, Martin Codax , Residence Wines, César Príncipe, Gil Family, Chapoutier, DO Cangas y Ksdal.
A comprehensive programme
The tasting experiences and educational sessions are complemented by a fascinating presentation and demonstration programme in the main auditorium of The Wine Edition Wines from Spain.
This will feature national and international voices, including chef James Henry (Le Doyenné Saint-Vrain*, France) and sommelier Alberto Segade (Kadeau**, Denmark) among others.
The two will be joined in the main auditorium by other well-known names from gastronomy and wine in Spain. Sommelier Mohamed Benabdallah (Extebarri*, Spain) will deliver a presentation focused on sulphites in wine while chef Hugo Muñoz (Ugo Chan*, Spain) will talk about pairing the Japanese cuisine in his restaurant with sake.
