Project EPIC: Developing a biotechnology platform for the preparation of innovative cancer vaccines.
One of five joint projects between Italy and Serbia selected in the context of a EUR 2 million call for scientific cooperation between the two countries has been awarded to the Cellular Immunology laboratory at ICGEB Trieste, headed by Dr. Federica Benvenuti. Funding, for 210,000 Euro has been awarded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
“Epic”, which falls within the thematic area of ‘bio and RNA technologies’, will be developed by the ICGEB in collaboration with the Institute for the Application of Nuclear Energy at the University of Belgrade: it aims to develop a new biotechnological platform for the preparation of anti-cancer vaccines based on dendritic cells, with the goal of obtaining a new generation of cancer vaccines using pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
As many as 83 projects were submitted for this call, confirming the scientific community’s interest in the initiative. “The success of the Italy-Serbia call, demonstrated by the enthusiastic participation by the scientific communities, not only confirms the solidity of our collaboration, but also reinforces the path of cooperation that we have undertaken,” said the Minister for Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. “Research, innovation and development pose challenges that we must face together, because only by uniting our excellence can we ensure that the results of progress are truly accessible and shared by all.”
Congratulations to the Cellular Immunology lab.
