And OHB Italia S.p.A. is proudly on board.
WHY does it matter?
In a world facing accelerating #climatechange, accurate and continuous global weather data is more critical than ever. #ESA and #EUMETSAT’s MetOp Second Generation mission gives concrete answer to this need with a new #constellation of six satellites (three A-B pairs), delivering next-generation meteorological and climate monitoring from Space.
WHAT is our role?
OHB Italia S.p.A. developed and qualified the #MWI (MicroWave Imager) instrument, one of the key #payloads on the MetOp-SG-B satellites. MWI delivers crucial measurements of precipitation, humidity, wind, snow, and sea ice: all essential for advanced weather models and long-term climate research.
HOW did we do it?
Through a unique combination of engineering expertise, industrial vision and quality-driven processes. MWI is a prime example of cutting-edge European technology, designed and integrated in different facilities with the highest precision.
WHAT’s next?
The three MetOp-SG-B satellites are now together at #Airbus’ Integrated Technology Centre in Friedrichshafen: a rare and exciting moment for the programme. The first B-type satellite is scheduled for launch in 2026. When MWI lifts off, it will carry with it a piece of OHB Italia’s passion, know-how, and commitment to #EarthObservation.
