- Almar Water Solutions reinforces its leadership in new water technologies as Silver Sponsor of the IDRA High-Level Seville Colloquium, promoting reuse as a strategic pillar for water sustainability.
- Carlos Cosín, Almar Water Solutions’ CEO and former President of the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA), calls for institutional alignment to position Seville as a global hub for water reuse dialogue and innovation, highlighting Andalusia’s pioneering role.
Seville, Spain – June 3, 2025. Almar Water Solutions participated as Silver Sponsor in the IDRA High-Level Seville Colloquium on Resilient Water Solutions, an international forum that brought together leading experts, institutions, and decision-makers to explore the future of water reuse and non-conventional resources.
A delegation from Almar Water Solutions attended the event, held in Seville on June 1–2. Carlos Cosín, CEO of the company and former President of the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA), moderated the panel discussion titled “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Water Reuse Under EU Regulations”, joined by:
- Jesús Maza, President, DAQUAS
- Eduardo Orteu, Counsel, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo
- Federico Ramos de Armas, Director, Veolia Madrid Agua
- Giampiero Genovese, Head of Unit, Joint Research Centre (JRC), European Commission
The session focused on translating EU policies into actionable water reuse strategies through effective regulation, sustainable investments, and strong public-private collaboration.
Carlos Cosín shared key data on the progress of reuse in Spain and Andalusia. The region increased its annual volume of regenerated wastewater from 17 hm³ in 2019 to 70 hm³ in 2024, with projections of 180 hm³ by 2027—thanks to over €400 million invested in infrastructure. He also highlighted Spain’s leadership in the field, with reuse rates reaching up to 98% in some regions and the recent enactment of Royal Decree 1085/2024, which promotes replacing conventional water sources with reclaimed water.
“Water reuse is a strategic response to climate change and water scarcity. Andalusia, and especially Seville, has the ambition, technical expertise, and institutional support to lead this transformation. At Almar Water Solutions, we fully endorse this vision,” stated Cosín during the panel.
On June 1st, at the institutional reception held at the Royal Alcázar, Cosín publicly thanked the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juan Manuel Moreno, for championing this platform for global water dialogue. He emphasized the importance of making Seville a lasting focal point for international collaboration in water innovation and sustainability:
“Spain and its companies are globally recognized for leadership in desalination and water management. This event has the potential to become a key gathering for knowledge exchange—turning water into a driver of sustainable progress for future generations. And why not make it happen right here in Seville?”
Almar Water Solutions’ participation in the colloquium reflects its global strategy to advance new water technologies, develop resilient infrastructure, and promote sustainable financing models through public-private partnerships.
