Host: L. Donaldson
Abstract
Dr Lisa Rothmann, Senior Lecturer in Plant Pathology at the University of the Free State, shares her journey from postgraduate student to academic researcher and lecturer. Framed as a response to Christian writer Thomas à Kempis’ question, “Why do we trouble ourselves with theories about genera and species?” Lisa reflects on the societal relevance of plant pathology – far beyond papers and theses, the discipline demands collaboration, interdisciplinary thinking, and intentional network- building to meaningfully contribute to crop protection and global food security.
