7 August 2025: Nature India reports on “Inside India’s rise as a biofoundry hub.”
At the ICGEB Board of Governors session in New Delhi, May 2025, Hon’ble Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Indian Nation’s first biofoundry.
Housed at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), the facility is part of a growing network of high-tech biofoundries transforming how biological products are designed and produced. Using automation, artificial intelligence, and synthetic biology, these labs can build and test dozens of genetically engineered organisms in parallel, condensing what once took months into weeks.
A recent article in Nature India reports on the progress in establishing the laboratories, speaks to the scientists behind the progres and explains the Government’s transformation process as a national push under India’s BioE3 policy to expand the bioeconomy.
