Multidisciplinary research in the meeting between religion and ethics entails many challenges that are linked to both transformation and conservation. In this talk, I will give a couple of examples on how that can be illustrated in concrete situations that are linked to societal changes and legal conflicts of different sorts. These examples can also relate to concrete choices that need to be done when building new multidisciplinary research within and beyond humanities and social science.

Freedom of religion and existential experiences do relate in practice to medical issues, technological development, societal and demographical changes, environment and climate, cultural heritage. In all these cases, we can see a trend of politicizing merely every issue that might arise.

This raises questions for researchers on how to act, be understood and what perspective to choose. It also put the multidisciplinary collaborations in new light and the (mono) disciplinary fields in a new perspective. Can transformation and conservation move in new directions and can the values behind transformation and conservation respectively be communicated and strengthen the most urgent contemporary research challenges and dilemmas?
