Public sector workers from across Newfoundland and Labrador are gearing up for collective bargaining with the province.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is hosting a series of townhall events for the 4,000 workers set to begin coordinated negotiations with Premier Tony Wakeham’s new administration. Working across six public service sectors, they include workers in housing, health care facilities, long term care centres, libraries, childcare, public schools, and more.

“These townhall meetings will be an opportunity for discussion and strategy with thousands of rank-and-file members involved in these large-scale negotiations,” said Sherry Hillier, CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador President. “These will be significant discussions that will shape the future of public services in our province. We’re public workers. Our wins at the bargaining table are wins for everyone.”

Hillier will be at the events to discuss key issues influencing bargaining and bargaining priorities with workers, along with Lead Negotiator, Nicole Dunphy. A question-and-answer forum will follow bargaining updates.

The townhall events are open to the media. CUPE NL President Sherry Hillier will be available for interviews 12:30pm on the dates below, at the corresponding venue.
