The Spanish technology company adopts Eclipse DataSpace Components (EDC) as its development engine and integrates into the Tractus-X ecosystem, aligning with the global standards ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38.
Libelium, a company dedicated to the design and development of digital twins for the sustainability and resilience of cities and businesses, has formalized its entry into the Eclipse Foundation and the "Data Spaces Working Group". This strategic alliance aims to accelerate the interoperability of its iris360 Data Space Ready solution, leveraging the flexibility of the Eclipse DataSpace Components (EDC) and the power of the Tractus-X ecosystem to ensure compliance with international data sovereignty standards.
Through this membership, Libelium strengthens its technological architecture by relying on two fundamental pillars of the foundation. On one hand, the adoption of the Eclipse DataSpace Components (EDC), the open-source component kit that acts as a constructive base. Libelium will use this framework to develop its own robust connectors, enabling integration with key initiatives such as SIMPL and Deltadao.
On the other hand, Libelium aligns with Tractus-X, the data ecosystem originally oriented towards mobility and automotive that is now expanding its horizons to other sectors. The company sees Tractus-X as a reference for "ready-to-use" solutions, facilitating a more agile implementation of digital twins in Smart Cities and sustainable mobility environments.
"Our strategy is clear: use EDC as the technical foundation to build solid infrastructures and Tractus-X as a vehicle to connect with mature industrial ecosystems," explains Antonio J. Jara, CSO of Libelium. "This duality allows us not only to comply with the GAIA-X specifications but also to align with the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38 standard on cloud computing and distributed platforms, ensuring that our clients operate under the most demanding global regulations."
"As interest in digital sovereignty continues to grow, we believe its long-term success depends on a strong, open ecosystem committed to innovation and good governance,” said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. “Eclipse Dataspace members like Libelium, with its dataspace-ready Iris360 platform, are helping drive interoperability across the European data ecosystem and contributing to broader global efforts around sovereignty and other key initiatives."
This move consolidates Libelium's dominant position in the standardization of European Data Spaces, allowing its technology to support connectors from various fields, from the Segittur connector for intelligent tourism to the FIWARE Data Space Connector, consolidating an offer of real and sovereign interoperability for public administration and industry.
