a safe choice especially for critical infrastructure

the high stakes of critical infrastructure

When it comes to critical infrastructure, reliability, security and long-time support are very fundamental requirements that require suppliers to step up, offering essential building blocks to develop solutions with a very high level of robustness and reliability.

Every deployment of hardware and software in critical infrastructure, from energy distribution to water management, from public transport to telco infrastructures, must be designed to minimize risk of issues associated with technology and suppliers which have the potential to cause operational failures and service interruptions, with serious consequences to operators and customers.

beyond compliance: the role of code sovereignty and open-source

In addition, Code Sovereignty and strong Open-source governance / stewardship of the highest level make a big difference for many critical infrastructure operators.  For some of them this is an as important aspect as is the compliance with demanding cybersecurity or industry specific regulations and frameworks.  It reduces vendor lock-in and mitigates many structural, technical and financial risks associated with creating purpose-built solutions.

eurotech’s commitment to open-source and ecosystem leadership

For Eurotech, embracing open source has always been an important aspect of its commitment and contribution to sustainability and a circular economy, way beyond environmental protection aspects. Eurotech decided more than 15 years ago to take a strong community driven approach to software development and as a result became one of the founding members of the Eclipse IoT Working Group.

recognized leadership in the open-source edge ecosystem

Industrial analysts from PAC (Pierre Audoin Consultants) recently analyzed the OSS ecosystem and acknowledged the Eclipse IoT Working Group as a leading IoT and Edge open-source community. They also positioned Eurotech with its projects as a “Top Contributor” in the context of Open Source – IoT and Edge Computing. The PAC document further highlights the special role the Eclipse Foundation plays, when it comes to realizing European Code and Data sovereignty aspects – again especially important for critical infrastructure.

an open and secure edge AIoT software stack

Eurotech today develops in the context of Eclipse Open-Source the two core building blocks for its widely leveraged Edge AIoT Software stack: the edge application framework Eclipse Kura and the device and data management platform Eclipse Kapua. These two projects form the foundation for the commercially supported offering of Eurotech: Everyware Software Framework (ESF) at the edge and Everyware Cloud (EC) as backend, deployable in the cloud or on premise. Together these two building blocks form a very integration friendly, open and complete Edge AIoT software stack.

proven in real-world critical applications

ESF & EC are deployed today in a wide range of applications and implementation scenarios. Condition monitoring of locomotives, monitoring of high voltage grid infrastructures, predictive & remote management of dialysis machines in hospitals & clinics or digitally integrating water management assets, customers value the open integration and strong security aspects (including a properly maintained SBOM) that a properly commercially supported open-source foundation offers.
