Since the launch of the Rule of Law Mechanism, civil society organisations (CSOs) have actively contributed to the process through annual consultations and by offering recommendations to enhance the instrument.
5 June 2026. These organisations consistently underline the interconnectedness between the rule of law and the broader democratic ecosystem — including civil, political, and socio-economic rights — emphasizing that the rule of law cannot be addressed in isolation from the functioning of democracy, a thriving civic space and effective access to fundamental rights. Against this background, the present joint contribution focuses on civic space as an essential component of rule of law resilience.
