One last tournament. One last home crowd. One last chance for Belgian tennis fans to celebrate David Goffin. After 17 years at the highest level of the sport, David Goffin will return to Brussels for an emotional farewell at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open, organized by Tennium and taking place from Saturday 17 to Sunday 25 October 2026 at Brussels Expo.
For nearly two decades, Goffin has carried Belgian tennis onto the biggest stages in the world. He became the first Belgian man in history to break into the ATP Top 10, reached a career-high ranking of world No. 7, won six ATP titles and reached four Grand Slam quarter-finals.
In 2017, he produced one of the greatest seasons in Belgian tennis history, reaching the final of the ATP Finals after defeating Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the same week. Years later, he showed he could still challenge the very best, adding Carlos Alcaraz to the list of champions he defeated during an extraordinary career.
But Goffin’s legacy goes beyond rankings, trophies and famous victories.
For a generation of Belgian tennis fans, David Goffin was the player they grew up watching. The player they followed at Grand Slams, cheered for in Davis Cup battles and celebrated as he took Belgian tennis into territory it had never reached before.
This October, they will have the opportunity to cheer for him one last time at home.
“David Goffin has been the face of Belgian tennis. His results have not only made history; his professionalism, humility and perseverance have also inspired an entire generation. The fact that he will bring his career to a close at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open makes this year’s tournament even more special. Together with the Belgian fans, we want to give him the farewell he so richly deserves,” said Tournament Director Dick Norman.
The BNP Paribas Fortis European Open has been part of Goffin’s story. He will make his eighth appearance at the tournament, having reached the semi-finals in 2016 and the quarter-finals in 2017 and 2022.
“Being able to bring my career to a close at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open, in front of my home crowd, makes it even more special. I hope to enjoy the atmosphere in Brussels one last time and share a memorable farewell with the fans,” said Goffin.
One generation says goodbye. Another steps forward.
Zizou Bergs and Raphaël Collignon are confirmed for Brussels, and more players will be announced soon.
Belgian tennis will also take centre stage on Tuesday 20 October with Belgian Day, and Zizou Bergs already confirmed to play. The day will celebrate Belgian tennis and give fans the chance to support the country’s leading players.
The Belgian stars will be joined by a strong international field, with Félix Auger-Aliassime and Casper Ruud also confirmed for the 2026 edition.
