1. Honky Tonk Bar
Honkytonk has been pumping music into the heart of Madrid since 1987. It was founded by Antonio Yenes, drummer of the band Mermelada, with the vision to bring live music closer to the people. Decades later that is exactly what the place is doing. HonkyTonk is even rumored to be the birthplace of many now-famous artists, songs, and verses. They host a wide variety of live music, from rock to blues and jam sessions where new talent can perform for an audience. On their website you can find the lineup of their different performances.
2. La Coquette Blues Bar
La Coquette Blues Bar is by far one of the most popular underground blues bars in Madrid, and rightfully so. Almost every night, a band takes the stage, switching between high-energy blues, smooth jazz-blues fusion, and everything in between. The only thing that stays the same is the insane level of talent of the musicians. Make sure you’re there about 15 minutes before they open, though; entrance is free, but once the bar fills up, there will be no new available spaces until someone leaves, and that usually takes at least an hour and a half!
3. Cafe la Palma
Café la Palma is a multidisciplinary venue that hosts live music in Madrid, as well as clubbing, and art exhibitions; all under one roof! The live music performances range from electronic to jazz, usually brought to you by local talent. The place is full of creative energy, and you can let it all out after the live performances when La Palma turns into a dance club. Or, if you’d rather have a calmer experience, be sure to check out their current exhibition. Either way, Café la Palma never fails to deliver an interesting and creative night.
4. Café Central
Jazz, cocktails, and cake. Do we even need to tell you more? Café Central has been around for a long time, and is the perfect place for Jazz lovers with a sweet tooth. They make their own cakes (or Tartas), and provide a space for Jazz talent to perform every single day. It’s a treat for your tastebuds, a feast for your ears, and a night you won’t soon forget. Have a look at their website for upcoming performances, and be sure to arrive hungry!
5. La Flaca
If you’re looking for a lively, high-energy spot where you can enjoy live music and actually get up and dance, La Flaca is the place to be. Every Friday and Saturday night, La Flaca hosts live music shows, with a mix of funk, soul, rock, and Latin that will have you busting moves you didn’t even know you had. Throughout the week, La Flaca keeps the party going with a mix of live performances and intimate dinner shows.
