The former Catalan player succeeds David Ferrer, who led the tournament for the past six years.
The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godó has appointed Tommy Robredo as its new sporting director. The tournament’s champion in 2004, the ATP world number 5 in 2006, and a player at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 throughout his career, where he currently serves as a sports advisor. Robredo will succeed David Ferrer, who concluded his successful tenure as sporting director in 2025 after six years of intense work to develop the tournament.
Robredo will begin his new role by managing the 73rd edition of the historic Barcelona tournament, which will be held in April 2026 on the RCTB-1899 courts. Throughout his career, the Catalan tennis player won 12 titles in 23 finals and won the Davis Cup with Spain in 2004. Robredo will bring all his experience gained in the world’s most important tournaments during his 25 seasons as a professional tennis player to the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. Furthermore, his connection with the Barcelona tournament has always been very special, as it is where he played his first professional match in 1998 and where he concluded his career in April 2022, playing his last professional match on the Rafa Nadal Court.
The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godó and the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899 would like to express their sincere gratitude to David Ferrer for his outstanding work as Tournament Director. His dedication, professionalism, and passion for tennis have left a lasting legacy on the event. We wish him all the best in this new chapter of his life.
