A bridge between science, innovation and the global community. From 11 to 13 June 2025, the Area Science Park of Trieste will host the second edition of the ICGEB Alumni Meeting: an international event that will bring together over 150 participants from more than 30 countries.
Jointly organised by the three ICGEB Components (Trieste, New Delhi, and Cape Town), the meeting celebrates the value of ICGEB’s global network of researchers and their impact on science and society. ‘Our alumni are the measure of our success,’ says ICGEB Director-General Lawrence Banks. ‘Having them with us, from all over the world, is an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate their achievements and the contribution they make to scientific progress and the well-being of humanity.’ Scientific organisers Prof. Serena Zacchigna and Dr. Marco Baralle of ICGEB Trieste say: ‘The meeting represents a unique opportunity to strengthen ties between our alumni around the world and current students, promoting the exchange of ideas, experiences and opportunities for collaboration.’
The meeting will take place in the Area Science Park, with over fifty talks by speakers from academia and industry. Dr. Sanjay Singh, alumnus of ICGEB New Delhi, Managing Director of “Gennova Biopharmaceuticals”, Pune, India, a company working to transform global healthcare, presents a keynote entitled “From Problems to Possibilities – The Science of Need-Driven Innovation”. In addition to Italy, former students join the meeting in Trieste from the UK, USA, China, Japan, Thailand, UAE, Germany, South Africa, Nigeria, among other countries.
With sessions dedicated to alternative careers in life sciences, networking between Alumni and recipients of WE-STAR scholarships, funded by a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) for women scientists in Africa, the meeting will include moments of conviviality, incorporating the 30th annual ICGEB symposium. There will also be poster sessions by current PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from ICGEB Trieste, and roundtables to discuss strategies for strengthening the Alumni network. The ICGEB Alumni Meeting 2025 is thus confirmed as a key event to consolidate the organisation’s international network, promote scientific cooperation, and inspire a new generation of researchers.
