In an audacious tribute to Maserati’s golden era, Modena Automobili unveils the MA-01: a masterful restomod of the revered Maserati Biturbo Shamal. First penned by the legendary Marcello Gandini, the original Shamal embodied the untamed spirit of late 1980s Italian engineering — an angular, muscular coupé driven by a 3,217 cc twin-turbo V8 and limited to just 369 examples. The MA-01 revives this icon for a discerning modern audience, blending heritage with state-of-the-art technology.
At its heart, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 — an evolution of Maserati’s architecture developed under Ferrari’s supervision — delivers 500 hp and 550 Nm of torque, channelled through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission for optimal smoothness and performance. This configuration ensures a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.0 seconds, with a top speed of 290 km/h. Upgraded suspension geometry, a Brembo braking system with larger ventilated discs, and Pirelli PZero tyres contribute to precision handling and uncompromising stability.
The bodywork, meticulously reimagined in steel and lightweight carbon fibre, retains Gandini’s signature cuts yet introduces modern aerodynamic refinements: asymmetrical rear arches, a pronounced central hood bulge, integrated LED clusters and an aggressive front splitter maximise airflow and cooling for the enhanced powertrain. A distinctive “truncated tail” with an arched spoiler and diffuser housing quad exhausts preserves its racing DNA.
Inside, craftsmanship and innovation converge. Recaro Classic LX seats offer ergonomic support, the digital dashboard is inspired by the original Shamal’s dials but integrates advanced infotainment, automatic climate control and a detachable Maserati oval clock.
Production is strictly capped at 33 hand-assembled units in Modena, fully TÜV-homologated and available with complete customisation, including donor car sourcing. Notably, Modena Automobili accepts Bitcoin payments — a nod to its avant-garde ethos.
